Saint Xavier University is a Leader for Sustainable Practices and Programs
Welcome to our Green Campus Web site. You can use this site to learn about the many ways in which Saint Xavier University is a leader in the City of Chicago for sustainable practices and programs.
SXU was the first school in Chicago to sign the Presidents Climate Commitment, a pledge by more than 550 colleges and universities across the nation to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and become climate neutral. Additionally, SXU is a member of Illinois Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn’s Illinois Higher Education Sustainability Compact, which has pledged to accomplish multiple environmentally sound goals by Dec. 31, 2010.
In 2006, we opened our first green student residence facility, Arthur Rubloff Hall, which became Illinois’ first university building to receive the coveted LEED Gold designation from the U.S. Green Building Council. Agatha O’Brien Hall, also built to LEED Gold standards, opened in fall of 2008. These beautiful living quarters double as educational facilities in which the resident students learn to live in harmony with the planet.
